Networking is embedded into all programs at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. With access to a global network of Carey and broader Johns Hopkins alumni, our students are well-connected and set up for success in any industry, in any corner of the world.
This commitment to connection was on full display at the 2025 MS Alumni Connect, an annual event that connects current Master of Science students with Carey alumni, faculty, and staff in a dynamic, multi-layered networking environment.
Hosted at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center in Washington, D.C., the event offered over 70 MS students the unique opportunity to engage with more than 20 alumni from across industries, demonstrating the power of the Carey network. Industries represented included research, finance, business analytics, and consulting.
The thoughtful structure of this year’s event made it unique. The event featured a blend of structured speed networking and informal open networking sessions, ensuring students would have authentic, high-impact interactions and conversations. MS students were able to ask questions, gain career insights, and grow their professional confidence.
“I wanted to connect with alumni who have navigated similar academic and professional journeys,” said current marketing student Cassie Zhao. “As a current student, I’m always looking for opportunities to learn from others’ experiences, gain practical advice, and expand my network within the Carey community. The event exceeded my expectations. It was filled with thoughtful conversations and genuine connections. I especially appreciated how open and willing the alumni were to share their career paths, challenges, and lessons learned.”
Participants also took an exclusive tour of the Bloomberg Center, which offered Carey alumni a tangible connection to the school’s latest innovations and deepened their sense of pride and community.
Alumni repeatedly emphasized the critical role of networking in the job search process, particularly for international students navigating the U.S. workforce, with one alum sharing with students how leaning into the Johns Hopkins network helped him transition from being a student to a business professional. They also encouraged students to maintain strong relationships within the Carey community and highlighted the importance of giving back as future alumni.
Carey’s Career & Life Design team prepared students through a pre-event workshop and developed an alumni booklet with profiles of the guests to ensure students were fully ready and empowered to approach conversations with intention and confidence, making the most out of their time with the alumni.
“It was an incredible opportunity. I really appreciated the thoughtful setting—it was great to reconnect with classmates and the Carey Career & Life Design team in a relaxed, yet professional environment,” said current Business Analytics student Caesar Feng. “I had the chance to speak with several alumni whose industries and roles closely align with my own career interests. What stood out most was the advice I received on both mid- and long-term career planning. These conversations helped ease a lot of the anxiety I’ve had about entering the U.S. workforce after graduation.”
The event not only provided students with real-world insights from alumni but also inspired students to return as alumni to support the next generation of leaders at Carey.
