Carey hosts over 20 Master of Science orientation events

Carey welcomed registered full-time Master of Science students to its Baltimore and Washington, D.C. locations to help prepare them for their transition to graduate school.

The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School community recently came together to welcome the newest members of Carey’s full-time Master of Science programs. Through a series of orientations and events in Baltimore, MD and Washington, D.C., students got a first glimpse of life at Carey, built connections with their new peers, and learned about the resources available during their time at Carey and beyond.

This year’s orientation programming featured over 20 events, ranging from skill-building workshops to city exploration activities. The experiences also introduced students to Carey’s values that extend beyond the classroom–respect, collaboration, and community.

Orientation season kicked off with International Orientation on August 12, bringing together 231 students from around the world. Sessions covered essential topics for international students, including cultural adjustments, U.S. classroom expectations, visa compliance, and how to reach out for support when needed. Breakfast and lunch provided cross-campus networking opportunities for Baltimore-based students to connect with Washington, D.C.-based students.

Master of Science students based in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore spent their orientation days on August 18 and 21 connecting with classmates, faculty, and staff. Across both locations, the events introduced them to Carey’s academic resources, career development opportunities via the Career & Life Design team, and tours of the vibrant cities that surround their classrooms. Students also had the opportunity to participate in data-focused workshops, including sessions like Introduction to R, All Things Tableau, and Introduction to AI, to get a firsthand look at what they will be learning at Carey.

Beyond the three main orientation days, Carey hosted a variety of student events throughout August. These events gave students the opportunity to sharpen their skills, discover their new cities, and begin forming connections. Highlights included:

  • Skill-building workshops: These workshops, which included sessions like Excel for the Business World and Python Bootcamp, gave students an overview of what they will be learning in their Master of Science courses at Carey.
  • Career preparation events: The Career & Life Design bootcamps in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. helped students clarify and strategize their goals at Carey and beyond.
  • Community engagement: Community activities like city explorations, boat tours, and rope courses introduced students to the surrounding areas and built a sense of camaraderie.

As the fall 2025 academic year begins, our new students are joining a global network of Carey alumni and peers who are committed to building for what’s next. We can’t wait to see the impact they will make both here at Carey and in the world.
