The fall 2027 Full-time MBA application is officially open. And if you’re considering taking that next step, there is no better way to picture your future than knowing what day one in the program actually looks like.
Beyond the curriculum, networking opportunities, and career outcomes you’ve seen and heard about, what really happens when you walk into Carey on your very first day?
The answer may surprise you. By the time the first day arrives, you’ll already feel like you belong.
You’ll already know how to access the building and common spaces. You’ll recognize familiar faces in the hallways. You’ve met your classmates, connected with faculty and staff, and have started to plan for balancing your studies and professional goals. All thanks to Foundations Week, professional development courses, and early MBA opportunities, you’ll arrive on day one well prepared to hit the ground running.
Here’s a look at what your first day as a Full-time MBA student in Baltimore could look like.
Start the day strong: Before settling into your seat in class, grab a coffee in the student lounge or library. It sounds simple, but it helps set the tone. It’s a moment to collect your thoughts before the energy of the semester takes over.
Be ready to hit the ground running: The MBA program is an eight-week structure, which means the pace is intentional and quick. From day one, you’ll start to learn the foundations. There is no easing in, and honestly, that’s part of what makes it exciting. Chances are you’ll most likely learn something new on day one.
Your first course will be Accounting Foundations, taught by Professor Ge Bai. But don’t let the word ‘foundations’ fool you into thinking it’s a surface-level introduction. Professor Bai brings deep industry connections and research expertise, particularly in the business of health, that allows her to guide students in their understanding of the foundational role of accounting in companies and organizations, and its implications for the ever-changing health industry.
The classroom is just the beginning: In those first few weeks, your calendar starts to fill up in the best way. You might sit down with your career coach from the Career & Life Design team to map out your fall professional development strategy, whether that’s registering for conferences and career fairs or signing up for Carey’s industry treks.
You’ll start to reach out to alumni for coffee chats, to build networks that will carry you well beyond graduation. Many of Carey’s alumni are willing and eager to support our students in any way possible.
“Graduate students have access to all parts of Johns Hopkins, so my networking possibilities are truly endless,” said Shayla Ellington (MBA ’26). “Everyone acts like a family and truly cares about your well-being. I can’t think of any other graduate school that has staff as caring as the staff and faculty here at Carey,” said Ellington.
Keep an eye out for your first industry insiders’ session, hosted by Carey’s Employer Relations team. These types of access points make Carey’s network tangible and immediate. And as student organizations and clubs hold their opening meetings, you’ll quickly find your people and your interests beyond the core curriculum.
Your first day at Carey is the beginning of your future. From the relationships you build during Foundations Week to the opportunities you’ll discover in the classroom, at partner organizations, or at experiences around the world, you will walk into Harbor East feeling prepared to make the most of every moment from day one.
If you’re ready to make this your reality, the Fall 2027 Full-time MBA application is now open. You can apply on Carey’s website.
We can’t wait to see where your journey takes you!
