A month filled with connections: Carey hosts three days of open houses

Johns Hopkins Carey Business School hosted prospective and admitted students at both Baltimore and Washington, D.C. locations.

Johns Hopkins Carey Business School hosted three open houses in the month of November for admitted and prospective students to explore their programs of interest and connect with the Carey community. FT MBA Preview Day, Discover Carey Day, and Experience Hopkins in D.C. Day provided insights into the distinctive Johns Hopkins experience.

Experience Johns Hopkins in D.C
Taking place on November 2, Experience Johns Hopkins in D.C. Day brought prospective and admitted students to the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center in Washington, D.C. to discover degree programs offered by three Johns Hopkins graduate schools: Carey Business School, Advanced Academic Programs from the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Advanced International Studies.

Students saw firsthand the distinctive Hopkins advantage this state-of-the-art location offers, as it creates new opportunities for research, education, and public engagements in the heart of Washington, D.C. Attendees also had the opportunity to learn more about Carey’s Washington, D.C.-based programs.

FT MBA Preview Day
On November 8, Carey welcomed full-time MBA candidates, including admitted students, applicants, and round 1 interviewees to its exclusive Full-time MBA Preview Day.

The day offered prospective and admitted students an immersive experience, where participants had the opportunity to engage directly with faculty, staff, and current students. They gained valuable insights about the full-time MBA program and experienced firsthand the experiential learning opportunities that sets the Full-time MBA program apart.

Students who attended noted that the event provided an authentic look at the collaborative culture at Carey, and how the school fosters an environment where diverse perspectives are valued and “business with humanity in mind” is a point of focus.

The day ended with closing remarks from key members of the Carey community, followed by a networking reception and dinner with current students.

Discover Carey Day
On November 9, Discover Carey Day gave prospective students from all degree programs the opportunity to learn more about their program of interest, career development, experiential learning, and more.

Attendees were welcomed to Carey’s Harbor East location with complimentary breakfast and a welcome session from members of the Carey community.

Participants attended program-specific breakout sessions, where they heard from faculty and current students, and could ask questions about the student experience at Carey.

The day concluded with a class preview where attendees were able to experience a graduate-level classroom exercise in the Pioneering the Business of AI course. Taught by Minghong Xu, associate professor of practice, key takeaways from the class preview included:

  • Understanding the AI landscape in business: Covered what AI is, key technologies and milestones, recent trends, and the AI value chain.
  • Exploring business cases and strategies for AI: How AI can enhance human productivity, drive discoveries in science, and reshape work processes, emphasizing areas where AI can bring the most value and what leading companies are doing.
  • Highlighting the importance of ethical leadership: Addressed the limitations, challenges, and risks of AI, stressing the need for critical thinking and ethical leadership.
  • Carey’s strengths in AI education: Presented Carey’s mission in AI education, including:
    • Integrating AI technologies into business processes and practices
    • Harnessing AI's potential with regulation and ethical leadership
  • Showcased our AI research center, CDHAI, and our AI course offerings
