What does Carey look for in an applicant?
Carey looks for applicants who are motivated and can clearly answer these questions: why now?, why an MBA?, and why Carey?At least two years of post-undergraduate work experience are preferred, but not required. Strong applications include thoughtful essays, a clear sense of your career goals, and experiences that demonstrate how you will contribute to the Carey network. - Do I need to take a standardized test to apply?
No! We do not require GMAT or GRE scores. If you are deciding whether to submit test scores, you can read about a few factors to consider.
- Should I apply if I have a low GPA?
Yes! There is no minimum GPA requirement to apply. The Admissions team takes a holistic approach when reviewing applications, considering your transcripts, resume, references, and essay responses. For example, a lower GPA may be balanced by strong professional experience. If you have concerns about your GPA, reach out to an Admissions officer about how to submit your best application.
- Who should I ask for a recommendation?
Choose someone who knows you and your professional strengths. Avoid asking family or friends to recommend you. The people you request letters from should be able to provide specific examples that demonstrate why you would be a good fit for the Flexible MBA program. Program information
- Is this program 100% online?
You can earn a Flexible MBA 100% online, and many of our students do. However, if you are interested in a more hybrid experience, you can choose to participate in residencies, Global Immersions, and other in-person opportunities.
- What does it look like to take online MBA classes?
Choose from synchronous (scheduled) and asynchronous (self-paced) courses. In class, you'll complete activities, group projects, and hands-on exercises using industry-relevant software. Generally, synchronous sections of a course are smaller, with about 20 students. Asynchronous sections have about 35 students.
- How long does it take to complete the program?
Most students complete the program in two to four years. Your course load determines your timeline. Accelerated courses can help you graduate sooner, or you can take more time to focus on your work life balance while completing your education. Your advisor can help you stay on track.
- How much time should I expect to commit to the program each week?
Expect to spend about 10 hours each week per course, including both class time and assignments. As a result of the flexible nature of this program, students’ time commitments vary widely because they have a great deal of control over their course load. The average student takes two classes each eight-week term, but you can scale back to one class, add a class, or even take time off.
- Can I join clubs and organizations if I’m an online student?
Yes! Our student organizations are open to all students, and many offer virtual or hybrid events. These types of events are a great way to connect with your classmates, build your network, and get more involved with the Carey community.
- How do the specializations work?
The Flexible MBA offers eight specializations, which you can earn by completing a curated selection of electives focused on a specific area of business. You can earn up to three specializations but are not required to earn any.
Graduation and outcome
- What does the diploma say?
As a Flexible MBA student, your diploma will say the same thing as a Full-time MBA student. Both programs consist of 54 credits and are taught by the same renowned faculty.
- Is there a graduation?
Flexible MBA graduates are invited to participate in the same commencement ceremonies at the rest of Carey Business School graduates.
- Where do graduates work?
