University Accreditation

Johns Hopkins University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Middle States has continually recognized Johns Hopkins University as an accredited institution for over 100 years, and most recently reaffirmed the university’s accreditation status in 2014.

The 2014 reaccreditation of Johns Hopkins University followed a decennial self-study process, where the university conducted a report focused on the efforts across Johns Hopkins University in achieving its core mission and values. Middle States reaffirmed Johns Hopkins in November 2014, commending the university’s self-study process and report.

Business School Accreditation

Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the world’s leading authority on the quality assurance of business school programs. Carey Business School most recently extended its accreditation with AACSB International in February 2022 for another five years. Carey Business School earned its initial AACSB accreditation in 2017, 10 years after the school was established.

Since its initial accreditation, Carey Business School has reimagined its full-time MBA program, revamped the Flexible MBA program, and established a STEM-designated curriculum of its full-time MS in Finance, MS in Marketing, MS in Information Systems, and MS in Business Analytics and Risk Management degree programs. Carey Business School has expanded its full-time faculty over 20 percent and the school has prioritized efforts to advance diversity, equity, inclusivity, and belonging throughout the school and in conjunction with its corporate partners.

AACSB accredited business schools share the common goal of creating the next generation of leaders who connect, share, and inspire innovation and quality through the AACSB International member network and business community. According to the AACSB, an accredited business school reflects its commitment to strategic management, success, thought leadership, and societal impact.

Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest-serving, most recognized global accrediting body for business schools and business degree programs. Accredited business schools undergo a rigorous external review process of its mission and values, faculty qualifications, curriculum, and programs. AACSB International accreditation is considered a hallmark of excellence in business education. According to the AACSB, less than five percent of the world’s business school programs achieve AACSB accreditation.

Statewide Authorization

Johns Hopkins University is authorized by the Maryland Higher Education Commission to operate as an institution of higher education, offering educational programs beyond secondary education with programs leading to a degree or certificate in the state of Maryland. According to the MHEC, it is responsible for establishing policies for public and private colleges and universities and for-profit career schools and enforcing the integrity, review, and approval of proposals for new and/or modified academic programs within the state of Maryland.
